In the heart of South Kivu, a region rich in mineral wealth, a program jointly launched by Cultural Survival and Femmes Pymees en Action (Pygmy Women in Action), Radio Kivu FM, Congo, has been empowering Indigenous Pygmy communities to reclaim their rights and protect their ancestral lands from mining activities.

Madam. President and Parties.


Indigenous Peoples from the seven socio-cultural regions wish to condemn the unethical methods and even more unethical outcomes this COP has produced. There is nothing to celebrate here today. As Peoples, as Sovereign Nations, we join the several other Nations that have voiced their vehement objections to these unacceptable decisions that are continuing to destroy our planet.

Union des Femmes Autochtones Pygmées pour le Développement Intégral (Pygmées-Batwa)

The Union of Indigenous Pygmy Women for Integral Development aim to contribute to the improvement of the socioeconomic living conditions of disadvantaged people, particularly Indigenous Pygmy women and girls, youth, and children, through the following pillars: fighting human discrimination and strengthening leadership and entrepreneurship among Indigenous women and youth; promoting respect for human rights, peaceful coexistence, public and reproductive health, as well as peace building; and preserving nature conservation and environmental protectio

Media Aid for Indigenous and Pastoralists Community (Maasai)

Media Aid for Indigenous and Pastoralists Community was formed by a journalist to empower Indigenous and pastoralist communities, who have suffered historical injustices as a result of colonization and dispossession of their lands, territories, and resources. These injustices have prevented them from exercising their rights to development in accordance with their own needs and interests.

Orkonerei FM Radio (Maasai)

Orkonerei FM was formed primarily to improve the lifestyle of the Indigenous Maasai community through information, communication, and education on development issues. It also supports the community in coordinating and organizing local economic development initiatives and facilitates community participation, inclusion, and engagement in a wide range of community development issues.

Eden FM (Khoisan)

Eden FM is a nonprofit community radio station broadcasting in the Garden Route district of the Western Cape province of the Republic of South Africa. The vision of the station is to celebrate the diversity, culture, and heritage of its listeners with programs to inform and educate them. Eighty percent of the station’s listeners are of Khoisan origin, and the station broadcasts programs to help its listeners foster pride in themselves, rediscover their lost history and heritage, and celebrate their achievements.
